Miscellany

What the hell is this?

Just some bits and pieces which didn't fit in easily anywhere else...

Things:

Some of My Music

  • The site anthem. (MP3 format).
  • The laugh song. (MP3 format).
  • Another track, entitled filthyape. (Ogg Vorbis format).
  • Another track, entitled seaside. (Ogg Vorbis format).
  • A track entitled "Agus a Bhi". This one is very soothing, and is good for easing nerves and settling stomachs. (MP3 format).
To play Ogg Vorbis files, there are various free solutions. One for Windows is ZINF which is available for free download. Newer versions of winamp support ogg-vorbis format sound files also. For Linux, suitable programs include XMMS, ZINF, AlsaPlayer and Ogg123. I would have put all tracks up in mp3 format except that 0catch.com do not allow mp3 downloads from their servers. Ogg downloads are OK though (or at least their server doesn't complain!). There are ethical reasons to use ogg instead of mp3 also (mp3 is not a truly free format), and it is also somewhat higher quality and more efficient.

Other Things

  • Screenshot of Linux desktop. Nothing too fancy, but shows Nautilus doing on-the-fly previews, transparent tinted aterm, xmms, gv, and a nice Gnuplot plot with pm3d coloring.
  • A funny translation of a German article.
  • pub host key, fingerprint is
    1024 d1:2e:db:cc:3f:01:a1:97:d6:5a:af:38:bf:85:01:97
  • Harmonics for xtide for Dublin, Ireland (Not for Navigation!). These disappeared from Debian between 2.2r2 and 2.2r3.

Why?

Everything can be filed under "miscellaneous".
